Ardha Halasana for beginners : Half Plough Pose : Yoga Aasanas

 Ardha Halasana or Half Plough Pose is a Yoga Asana that is similar to Uttanpadasana. Ardha Halasana is good for improving the functions of abdominal organs.

‘Ardha’ means half in Sanskrit, and ‘Hal’ means plough. This Yoga Aasana is called Adrdha Halasana because it resembles half the shape of Indian Plough.

Ardha Halasana steps for beginners 

·      Lie on your back with arms by your side, and palms down (You can also keep your hands under your buttocks to protect the small of your back). 

·      Join both the legs. 

·      The small of the back should remain touching the floor while you perform this Yoga Aasana.

·      First lift your right leg up to 90 (Ninety) degree. While lifting your leg don’t forget to inhale. Lift your leg slowly and as you lift your leg inhale in tandem with lifting. Hold for 3- 5 seconds. 

·      Lower your right leg. Exhale as you lower it. 

·      Now lift your left leg up to 90 (Ninety) degree. While lifting your leg don’t forget to inhale. Lift your leg slowly and as you lift your leg inhale in tandem with lifting. Hold for 3- 5 seconds. 

·      Lower your left leg. Exhale as you lower it.

·      Continue lifting alternate legs with deep and powerful breathing. 

 

Please Note : Once you become practice perfect you can raise both legs simultaneously to 90 degree.  

 

 

Ardha Halasana Precautions 

·      Don’t stretch too much. Keep Patience. If you are not able to lift your leg up to 90 degree, lift it to your comfortable height. With practice you will be able to lift up to 90 degree. 

·      Stretching too much may injure your muscle.

·      You should avoid doing this pose in case of an abdominal injury, hernia, and lumbosacral (lower back) pain.

 

·      This Yoga Aasana not to be practiced by pregnant women. 

·      Begin with 1-2 minutes. Gradually stabilize your practice at 3-5 minutes and work up to 10 minutes when you become practice perfect.
